Now that the Yankees have all been but mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, I shifted my focus to football… only to find that the Giants stink again.
The New York Giants seem to have two gigantic problems: their defense looks terrible so far and as does their offensive line. These problems do not seem fixable in season, so… yeah, I kinda think we’re screwed.
I refer to these kinds of problems as "The Gary Sinise Rule" because of a scene in Apollo 13 where his character and another are trying to figure out how much power they have and how much they need to get to spacecraft back to earth. Sinise’s character suggests that they need to turn on some systems for a safe return, but the engineer says that in that case, something has to be turned off and says haphazardly, the parachutes. Gary Sinise’s responds , "Well, if the parachutes don’t open then what’s the point?"
This elaborate analogy is my way of saying that the Giants season is probably over already. As in:
If you can’t protect the quarterback, what’s the point?
If the defense is going to let up over 400 yards a game, what’s the point?
This is going to be a long fall/winter. Maybe I’ll try hibernating.
